Somnath Temple is the name of a very ancient and historical Sun Temple located in the state of Gujarat at the western end of India in South Asia. It is one of the select and important temples of Indian history and Hindus. It is still considered and known as the first of the 12 Jyotirlingas in India. It is said about this temple located in Veraval port of Saurashtra region of Gujarat that it was built by Chandradev himself, which is clearly mentioned in Rig Veda.

This temple has been a symbol of the history of the rise and fall of Hinduism. Being extremely glorious, this temple was demolished and rebuilt many times in history. Reconstruction of the present building was initiated by Iron Man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel after India's independence and was dedicated to the nation by the President of India Shankar Dayal Sharma on December 1, 1995. Somnath Temple is a world famous religious and tourist destination. An hour long sound and light show is held in the temple premises from 7.30 pm to 8.30 pm, in which the history of Somnath temple is beautifully illustrated. About Somnath Temple

According to the Shiva Purana, as a result of an argument between Brahma and Vishnu regarding the supremacy of creation,Shiva pierced the three worlds as a huge endless pillar of light, the jyotirlinga, to test them. Vishnu and Brahma split their ways to downwards and upwards respectively to find the end of the light in either directions. Brahma lied that he found out the end, while Vishnu conceded his defeat. Shiva appeared as a second pillar of light and cursed Brahma that he would have no place in ceremonies while Vishnu would be worshipped until the end of eternity.

History

જંગલ એક મહત્વપૂર્ણ જૈવિક સંશોધન ક્ષેત્ર છે જેમાં નોંધપાત્ર શાસ્ત્રીય,શૈક્ષણિક, સૌંદર્યલક્ષી અને મનોરંજક મૂલ્યો છે. વાર્ષિક લણણી દ્વારા તે લગભગ 5 મિલિયન કિલોગ્રામ લીલો ઘાસ પૂરો પાડે છે, જેની કિંમત આશરે રૂ. 500 મિલિયન. જંગલ વાર્ષિક આશરે 123,000 મેટ્રિક ટન ઇંધણ લાકડું પ્રદાન કરે છે.

ગીરની 2,375 વિશિષ્ટ પ્રાણીસૃષ્ટિની ગણતરીમાં સસ્તન પ્રાણીઓની 38 પ્રજાતિઓ, પક્ષીઓની 300 જેટલી પ્રજાતિઓ, સરિસૃપની 37 પ્રજાતિઓ અને જંતુઓની 2000 થી વધુ જાતિઓ શામેલ છે.

માંસાહારી જૂથમાં મુખ્યત્વે એશિયાઇ સિંહો, ભારતીય ચિત્તો, જંગલી બિલાડી, પટ્ટાવાળી હાયના, સોનેરી જેકલ, બંગાળ શિયાળ, ભારતીય ગ્રે મંગૂઝ અને રડ્ડ મંગૂઝ અને મધ બેઝરનો સમાવેશ થાય છે. એશિયાટિક વાઇલ્ડકેટ અને રસ્ટી-સ્પોટેડ બિલાડી થાય છે, પરંતુ ભાગ્યે જ જોવા મળે છે.

ગીરનાં મુખ્ય શાકાહારી પ્રાણીઓ ચિતલ, નીલગાય, સંબર, ચાર શિંગડાવાળા કાળિયાર, ચિંકારા અને જંગલી સુવર છે. આસપાસના વિસ્તારના બ્લેકબક્સ ક્યારેક અભયારણ્યમાં જોવા મળે છે. નાના સસ્તન પ્રાણીઓમાં, સર્ક્યુપિન અને સસલો સામાન્ય છે, પરંતુ પેંગોલિન ભાગ્યે જ જોવા મળે છે.

સરિસૃપનું પ્રતિનિધિત્વ મગની મગર, ભારતીય કોબ્રા, કાચબો અને મોનિટર ગરોળી દ્વારા કરવામાં આવે છે જે અભયારણ્યના પાણીના શરીરમાં રહે છે. ઝાડવું અને જંગલમાં સાપ જોવા મળે છે. પાયથોન્સ પ્રવાહના કાંઠે સમયે જોવા મળે છે. ગીરનો ઉપયોગ રાજ્ય વન વિભાગ દ્વારા કરવામાં આવ્યો છે જેણે 1977 માં ભારતીય મગર સંરક્ષણ પ્રોજેક્ટની રચના કરી હતી અને કમલેશ્વર તળાવ અને ગીરની આજુબાજુના પાણીની અન્ય નાના સંસ્થાઓમાં 1000 ની નજીક માર્શ મગર છોડ્યા હતા.

એશિયાઈ સિંહ
એશિયાઇ સિંહોનું નિવાસસ્થાન શુષ્ક ઝાડીવાળી જમીન અને ખુલ્લું પાનખર જંગલ છે. 2010 માં સિંહની વસ્તી 411 થી વધીને 2015 માં 523 થઈ હતી, અને તે બધા ગીર રાષ્ટ્રીય ઉદ્યાનમાં અથવા તેની આસપાસ રહે છે.

1900 માં એવો અંદાજ લગાવવામાં આવ્યો હતો કે વસ્તી 100 જેટલી ઓછી છે, અને એશિયાઇ સિંહોને સુરક્ષિત પ્રજાતિ તરીકે જાહેર કરવામાં આવી હતી. 1936 માં થયેલી વસ્તી ગણતરીમાં 289 પ્રાણીઓ નોંધાયા હતા. સિંહોની પ્રથમ આધુનિક ગણતરી રાજકોટના રાજકુમાર કોલેજના આચાર્ય Mark Alexander Wanter-Blath & R.S. Dharmakumar Singhji 1948 અને 1963 ની વચ્ચે અને બીજા સર્વેમાં 1968 માં નોંધ્યું હતું કે 1936 થી ઘટીને 162 થઈ ગઈ છે.

Kids allowed in Gir National Park - According to information from a year ago Though there are no specific rules around this, it is better not to take so small kids to the safari. It is quite dusty inside and the ride is approximately 2.5 hours hence it is advisable that kids should be at least 2 years if you plan to take any inside the park.
